2 Inspiring Fashion Photos

Fashion is more than a model posing for a camera. Fashion is art, fashion is a way of conveying a message about ourselves, through clothing.

Below is two images which pathed the way of fashion photography. Each telling a story behind the lens.

Richard Avedon -Dovima with elephants (1955)

Taken by Avedon at the Cirque d'hiver in Paris. The symmetry between the model and the elephants is divine. The contrast of the rough elephant skin and the smooth fabric with a clean elegant model, alongside dirty elephants. Yet both convey a force in great power.

Published in Harper Bazaar, this negative no longer exists. Its still a mystery till this day.

Nick Knight -Tatjana Patitiz for Jil Sanders (1992)

I remember seeing this photograph when I was 12 years old and it was on the cover of a fashion illustration book. I was drawn to this book across the room as the image captured my imagination.

As I look at the image now in conveys mystery, femineity and sheer artistry. It was beautifully composed and is enchanting. A story behind the image of a young blossoming stardom.

Cuff Love

Are you in cuff love? I am! This trend reached its peak recently for the summer party season. Everyone was asking me where do I buy a arm cuff from? Fashion didn't predict this trend and Australian retailers were unprepared for the demand.

Arm cuffs are brilliant arm candy and they are a season must have! The most 'on trend' style is the snake arm cuff, very exotic and Cleopatra.

Celebrities seen rocking the upper arm candy look last year were Rihanna, Kate Moss and Gwen Stefani.

Definitely can see this trend sticking around until Fall 2014.

Your STYLE

Over the years our life changes, wether that includes a change in jobs or a change in our personal life. Therefore your style changes, you adapt your style to suit your lifestyle. But sometimes we need a nudge in the right direction to find out what style personality will work with you. Remember life is a catwalk, so strut your stuff!!

Rock Chic

Who are you: Your wardrobe consists of black and white, polished cuts but still a bit edgy. You like prints and graphics and you are not afraid of being bold.

Feminine

Who are you: You like lady like pieces in pretty florals and pastel hues. You love a midi skirt/dress and love keeping your look clean  Your chic and sophisticated.

Simple

Who are you: Your a minimalist, less is best! You have a lot of mix and match pieces with clean lines. Your all about quality not quantity. You believe in solid colours and don't like patterned items.

Boho

Who are you: You like earthy tones and motifs representing all things nature. Your clothing is free spirited, you like breezy, holiday style pieces. Your not afraid to wearing daring prints and can combine your inner hippie with luxurious.

Creative

Who are you: Your style icon is Sarah Jessica Parker, you watch re runs from the series of Sex and the City. Your not afraid to make a statement and be different. You don't like following trends you like to create them. You love designer pieces but also can make the cheapest outfit look a millionaire bucks.

Envelope Skirt

I am in love with this trend, I don't know why I haven't written about this amazing skirt until now. The origami like folds and sharp asymmetric cut on this skirt is fresh, contemporary and modern.

Tip; Wear this style of skirt with a solid colour top if the skirt is patterned (to soften the look) and vice versa.

The envelope skirt sits at the hip and the zig zag hem gives a distant shape similar to your pencil skirt. This style is forgiving in the hips (yay) but fitted to show of your waist. This skirt easily transitions from day to night.

The envelope skirt will also be transitioning from a summer piece to a winter piece. This trend will be sticking around for a while, so my top tip is to invest in a envelope skirt that is high in quality and choose a colour that will go with your other pieces in your wardrobe.

5 Ways to Stay 'Cool' this Summer

It's 46 degrees in Australia at the moment and the number one problem people have during this heat is finding or wearing clothes to help you stay cool. Here are my tips and tricks in staying summer cool without walking around naked everywhere.

1. Chiffon Dress

Look for flowery chiffon or cotton based dresses. Avoid dresses which cling to your body such as a bodycon dress. Look for skater dresses and loose dresses.

2. White top

Wear a white top as white deflects the heat. Try a off the shoulder top. Look for detailing such as ruffles. Wear with shorts or a skirt.

3. Floral Kimono

An easy breezy piece to wear, just wear some shorts and a tank and your set to go. Great for the beach and an all around summer key piece. Add some boho to your wardrobe.

4. Black Floppy Hat

Another on trend item, great piece to wear o the beach but also good for bad hair days. A hat like this one will transform your wardrobe believe me! Buy this style of hat in different colours such a easy accessory to add to your outfit.

5. Glam Sandals

Add some bling to your feet this summer. Look for crystal encrusted sandals. Invest in some sandals that will go with most of your outfits....you will thank me later.
